About Us

I met Emily at College, where she worked full-time to support her mom in paying their rent. After spending a month in the hospital, causing her to lose her job, Emily’s family struggled to pay rent and was faced with possible homelessness. Her situation motivated me to create a fundraising effort among our classmates to secure her rent and instilled in me a passion to support others in similar crises. First Step Awareness, connects the unhoused with community resources, cultivate relationships with those living in shelters, and organizes workshop events where individuals can speak about their experience being unhoused.

Our mission is to reduce the stigma, isolation, and emotional strain that results from being unhoused.

“May I never get too busy in my own affairs that I fail to respond to the needs of others with kindness and compassion.”

— Thomas Jefferson
